For me it is like looking at a painting by a great artist, it tells a beautiful story between reality and mythology.
It could be titled "the nymphs of the spring."

I confess it was a pleasant surprise to see the debut of this topic. Months ago I had opened a thread regarding the question of the choice of ECs left to the judgment of a single person and I had suggested to adopt a system like "Nomination" as for the Oscars of the cinema. I don't know if my suggestion could have helped, but I'm glad to see that something has moved to definitely make the way of rewarding the best uploads more sensible and unbiased.

Now, having a fair number of images to point to as worthy, I'm waiting to read the response to @enriquelopezgarre's post to know how many links I can post.

@Ben - my suggestion - allow one nomination per person weekly. Each Monday - Pixabay select one or more from the nominations to receive an EC. However, what ever the Pixabay team decides I am sure will be good!!

I definitely think there should be a focus on quality over quantity here. With that being said, I would love to see all your nominations.

We will be looking for proper nominations. So take a moment to answer the questions on technical excellence and compelling stories as thoroughly as you can. It's a good exercise on its own as a reflective practice technique. A great skill to hone!

Exceptional artistic technique:
Macro photography is extremely difficult, especially at this scale with a fast-moving insect. Camera-man has managed to get the depth of field just right with perfect focus on the compound eye. The lighting is also really perfect with an angle that helps to reflect the iridescence of the insect as well as adding tone and dimension to the subject.

Compelling story:
The way the fly is poised on the leaf and the framing creates a sense that takeoff is imminent. From an emotional perspective, I am filled with wonder that such a common creature (at least in Australia) could be so beautiful and sophisticated. The next time a fly flew past instead of being irritated I was fascinated.

Obviously, it would be unfair for me to nominate, but in this case, he already got an EC for this photo!

He has an exquisite technique in his compositions and really amazes me his final work that borders on perfection and manages to merge the environments as if it were a landscape work and this particular work evokes a rebirth every day with all the strength that is imposed by looking at his eyes, we all have a paradise to return to after a long day.

A perfect footgraph, with a very refined technique made with a large focal length, where the background appears totally out of focus and you can clearly see the main subject with a really amazing sharpness and colors.
You can see the movement of the wings and the balance with only one of its legs, because the other still does not fully grasp that small branch.

thanks for choosing one of my pictures in your nomination example. Obviously, as you rightly say, in order not to do injustice, you took an image already awarded, but it could be the suggestion to introduce one day also the "Super EC", chosen among all EC... (LOL).

Allow me to inaugurate my nominations not with a single image (or video), but with an artist's entire portfolio. This is because I've noticed that there are truly talented creators who, for various reasons, have little visibility, especially from Pixabay's supervisors.

He creates fantastic composites, engaging both in the search for a precise theme and in the number of elements he blends together. He has an accurate technique that makes fantastic scenarios perfectly "believable". He only uploaded 30 works and in over two years none of them ever received an EC. I won't mention one of his works in particular, but I would be happy if the team in charge would award at least one of them, also to underline the difference between those who show unquestionable creative skills dedicating a lot of time to realize each work and those who take a ready-made PNG and with a simple "copy and paste" in one minute have finished the "artistic work" (I have seen many of them...)

It would be good to award EC by categories, that is, to differentiate between photography, compositions and illustrations, it is only a suggestion. In addition, it would also be good to award EC by themes:
animal world, landscapes, the sea, urban, fantasy, portrait, etc ...

maybe enriquelopezgarre is right. Because now, almost every EC is landscape or animal. There are not many people in the first pages. Still, photos of people is something very much searched for on Pixabay. Websites, writers, magazines, all kinds of companies use photo's from people. So maybe a few categories might be good. 'nature', 'people', 'illustrations', 'food'. But don't make too many. Portrait could be put in the 'people' category. Sea should be in 'nature' just like animals should be in nature. Having a lot of categories would make things more complicated. But having a few, would make things more easy.

Would be good to see more illustrations/designs etc. on EC's - especially if they were mine ;-)
